Not so long ago, I reached out to a ministry that has an email list to over 600,000 pastors (as stated on their social media).
This ministry wasn’t interested in helping distribute (more) Bibles to the persecuted church because, as the lady said on the phone, we only share the writings of our founder.
Does a ministry (partly) exist for its founder and his platform, or does it exist in order to reach and help more people when it has an opportunity to do so?
Only God knows how many Bibles this retired pastor could easily and freely distribute to his persecuted brothers and sisters through just one email, especially if he would encourage these 600,000 pastors to share this Bible fundraiser with their church.
I’m afraid that ministries are sometimes more concerned about their ministry and their platform than reaching and helping more people when they have an “outside” opportunity to do so.
While policies and procedures are important, they should never outweigh people.
As I’m writing this, I do have to ask myself, do I share this because this is “my idea” – helping distribute Bibles to the persecuted church – and everyone should just help me do so.
Or, do I share this because there’s a real, legitimate need that this retired pastor can easily meet through just one email.
In all honesty, I don’t have a clear answer. Yes, I’m excited about “my idea,” and I expect that everyone should just jump the bandwagon.
On the other hand, there is a real, legitimate need, apart from the fact that this is “my idea,” and this retired pastor can easily and freely make a major difference in the life of thousands of persecuted Christians.
Sometimes, it’s just easier to go with the facts. These classic books will be a tremendous blessing to these pastors, and their purchase will help distribute Bibles to our persecuted brothers and sisters.
For example, if only 10% of these 600,000 pastors purchases one of the $4.00 classic Christian book deals, this retired pastor would distribute 20,000 Bibles to his persecuted Christians.
Should he or should he not do so?
