The following is about the easiest reward that any Christian will be able to receive.
In Mark 9, we read: “John said to him, ‘Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.’” Jesus responded: “Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. For the one who is not against us is for us.”
Here was an unknown believer during Jesus’ time who was casting out demons in His name. Jesus didn’t “feel” the need to make sure that he was part of their specific group. In addressing John’s question, He simply divided everyone as either “against us” or “for us,” whereby Jesus is the main person regarding the against or for.
Jesus then said: “For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward” (Mark 9:38-41). Jesus combined doing something in “my name” and doing something for those who “belong to Christ.”
He made an action in favor of Jesus and an action in favor of Jesus’ disciples as one and the same. What you do unto those who “belong to Christ,” you do unto Him. On the other hand, what you do not do unto those who “belong to Christ,” you do not do unto Him.
According to Jesus, we’ll be rewarded for whatever we do for those who “belong to Christ,” even if it’s as “small” as giving “a cup of water.” Our doing something beneficial for those who “belong to Christ” reveals that we are for Christ—in favor of Christ—for everything we do is characterized as either against or for Him.
Paul expressed that as follows: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31). All our actions are either done “to the glory of God” or they are not done “to the glory of God.” There’s no neutrality. In all that we do, we are either against Christ or for Christ, which brings us to The Christian Experiment.
The Christian Experiment wants to make “a discovery” whether Christians are willing or unwilling to help distribute Bibles to their persecuted brothers and sisters, by way of creating awareness for a Bible fundraiser for the persecuted church.
If giving “a cup of water” to someone who belongs to Christ will be rewarded, can we not also use the same principle for sharing of a Bible fundraiser for those who “belong to Christ”?
Obviously, Jesus didn’t limit our doing or our not doing something beneficial for those who “belong to Christ” to only “a cup of water.” The reward applies to everything we do that’s beneficial for those who “belong to Christ,” including sharing a Bible fundraiser.
If (since!) that’s case, wouldn’t you say that one social media share on behalf of those who “belong to Christ” may be one of the easiest and simplest ways to receive an everlasting reward?
Ultimately, your sharing of a Bible fundraiser for those who “belong to Christ” will fall under the category of being “for us,” being favorable to Christ. It also falls under the category of doing it “to the glory of God.” Personally, I find it hard to believe that anyone will be able to not share a Bible fundraiser “to the glory of God.”
Yes, The Christian Experiment wants to make “a discovery” as to how willing or unwilling Christians are when it comes to a free, simple, and easy action like sharing a Bible fundraiser on their social media for those who “belong to Christ.” Your social media share includes Jesus’ statement, “will by no means lose his reward.”
Do you believe Him?
Your actions will tell, right?
Will you share a Bible fundraiser on behalf of Jesus’ persecuted brothers and sisters?
It doesn’t cost you anything and you’ll be divinely rewarded for it.
